The AIR BETWEEN

an ADULT ACTING WORKOUT for Intermediate and Advanced STUDENTS

Mondays, 7:00 - 9:00 pm

PLAYERS BY THE SEA SCHOOL OF THE ARTS

A safe and intimate environment where actors can

hone their skills, and “practice” their craft.

Instructor Barbara Colaciello brings a unique perspective to the acting process utilizing her eclectic experiences and interests. Based on her extensive theater background, sales and marketing experience and on her personal journey as an actress, stand-up comedienne, singer and storyteller, she has developed a program that allows the actor to connect mind, body and intuition.

Influenced by methods and techniques of Viola Spolin, Paul Sills,

Stanislavski, and premier acting coach Larry Moss, she incorporates improvisation, movement and pantomime, emotional gestures,

and repetition techniques.

Emphasis on playing specific actions, mastering ones

emotional instrument and finding behavior.

Utilizing improvisational techniques allow actors

to be playful and focused, enabling the ability to relax and discover choices in the moment. Acting training and rehearsal process MUST be improvisational to capture the naturally spontaneous quality of real life.

“Barbara has a way of finding the talent that lies buried beneath all the mundane, everyday clutter you accumulate around your soul.  She digs deep, finds the rough diamond, and helps you turn it into an invaluable resource.”

Al Letson, National Radio host, playwright, poet and actor

“From an actor notorious for getting caught in his head, Barbara really knows how to find your “actor tricks”.  After she shows you how you use them, they're stripped from you so you stop thinking and start acting. If you can accept the challenge (and you will be challenged), Babs keeps you honest on stage.  Honesty keeps you from being deadly.

Steve Anderson, Actor

“Barbara's introduction to the creative process is what triggered my introduction to my conscious life.  Working with her has affected my perception of and reception to so many things, both within the creative process and outside of it (though nothing really is).  I really do not know who I would be were it not for my time spent working with Barbara.”

Julian Goldhagen,  NYU Theater Major, graduate of PBTS School of the Arts

"Barbara has such a young energy, just like a child. I love working with her. She helped me to release my inhibitions and really get into the personality of the character I was playing. She definitely has a great eye in analyzing and gives good complex criticism.  I highly recommend Barbara Colaciello to anyone who likes to act or dance, as she  helps you have honesty in your work. I appreciate her coaching and use it when I am working in any piece.”

Gisela Morgan, Braided Light Dance Project- Dancer

“Working with Barbara at Players by the Sea was something that really defined my high school experience.  With her, I was able to grow immensely as an actor, a creator, and a human being.  Her classes and productions never felt like unnecessary or boring work.  I was always eager to work hard because I knew it would be rewarding.  Barbara's classes are one of the reasons I'm continuing theatre in college.”

Alex Young, Northwestern University Theater Major, graduate of PBTS School of the Arts
